In the business world, strategy and execution are the keys to success. Without understanding where you are going – and how you will get there – you could end up taking the path of most resistance to your final destination.
With a clear strategy, good communication, and innovative processes, Pismo aims to grow at an exciting yet sustainable pace. It’s not that we’re risk-averse or hesitant to take a leap of faith. It’s about knowing when to take that leap and where to land that makes all the difference.
Clear strategy comes with solid leadership and defined goals. While we may be a little biased, having excellent leadership is often the difference between success and failure.
We have been reminded of this many times during the pandemic; our leaders steered us in the right direction, often navigating through murky waters, to keep us headstrong when making tough decisions. This resulted in team cohesion, with each of us understanding our role within the company and how we could help move it forward.
With solid leadership comes a strong identity. We are #ProudtobePismo. We understand that taking care of our own (even our pets get recognised on International Pet Day!) means using our resources to support each other, whether words of affirmation, acts of service, quality time, or gifts.
We’re not extravagant or over-the-top, but we give each other the gift of time, a listening ear, and even send the occasional breakfast basket to Taiwan to our far-flung employees (yes, that was me, and it was delicious!).
We take a different approach to communication than many companies. It’s not just about asking questions. It’s about asking the right questions.
Asking the right questions in meetings means looking at problems (and solutions) from another perspective. We allow ourselves to delve into context, find different solutions that work out best in the long run. We don’t take shortcuts if they expose us to long-term issues.
We see innovation in many places at Pismo. There is innovation within our engineering teams who work tirelessly to provide excellent customer-driven solutions. We innovate through our HR programs, including international exchanges and familial support. And we innovate through our very ability to take on a global market at the speed of light.
The goal is never to placate. The trick is not to allow entropy to stagnate us. Looking at ourselves critically at every stage of our development process has kept us honest and on our toes. That is how we can keep innovating.
Is it exhausting? Sometimes! Tough conversations happen daily, but we have practised what we preach when we come out the other end of a deep dive. We have stayed true to our strategy (or made necessary adjustments) through our communication, and we remain innovative, agile and dynamic.
