BTG Pactual and Pismo present digital banking showcase at Money20/20 Europe

Executives from both firms spoke to an audience of industry leaders at the event, outlining how Pismo helped BTG launch a new digital bank

On day two of Money20/20, BTG Pactual hosted a talk on the Pismo stand. Entitled “How to build an award-winning bank in eight months”, it featured an array of expert speakers from both companies.

Appearing on stage for Pismo were Ricardo Josua, Co-Founder and CEO, and Vishal Dalal, CEO for North America, Europe, and Asia. Marcos Xavier, Associate Partner, and Rodrigo Del Monaco, Executive Director at BTG Pactual, joined them.

The talk focused on the partnership between Pismo and BTG Pactual. It detailed how Latin America’s largest investment bank used the Pismo platform, hosted on Amazon Web Services (AWS), to create BTG Pactual Banking (initially called BTG+), a digital bank bringing disruptive products to market.

“What I find impressive about BTG is that it has a number of impressive and effective verticals,” Ricardo says. “Whether that’s investment, trading, or its BTG+ digital banking proposition.”

The app focuses on providing something new to the market. It found its inspiration in apps that users already love and use on a daily basis. Important to the project was ensuring that the product looked different from competitors.

Pismo leverages AWS infrastructure to assure the resiliency and scalability that BTG needed for its new digital project and uses it to host our banking and payment systems globally.

Pace of change

“We have seen such a pace of change in the industry,” says Del Monaco. “Non-financial players are moving into finance or looking for fintechs to acquire.” It is important, he adds, for institutions like BTG to provide services akin to technology companies.

Xavier agrees: “We’re a very open-minded institution.” He adds it is essential for customers to be offered the right amount of choice and all the services they have come to expect. “We want to enable them to access cards, enable them to access PIX (Brazil’s instant payment network) and enable them access to lending.”

The digital offshoot has proved a huge success for BTG Pactual. It has ratings of 4.8 on the Apple App Store and 4.5 on Google Play. The bank built a complete retail banking experience from scratch with Pismo, centred around its innovative app packed with features.

BTG Pactual Banking also allowed BTG Pactual to reach new customers. The bank saw outstanding synergies between BTG Pactual Banking and its investment business, including its digital investments app, BTG Pactual Investimentos.

As the audience watched, the four executives answered questions about the app’s development, deployment, and importance to BTG Pactual.
